In Aaru’s Awakening, the player is given two mobility-based abilities; teleportation and charging. These two abilities will be utilised to traverse the levels in the game. When the balance of the world of Lumenox is threatened by Night, Dawn sends forth Aaru to bring balance back to Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night.
Life Goes On takes a new twist on Platformers such as Super Meat Boy, in which death is expected, and makes it a requirement. In the game, you will need to sacrafice lives to surpass puzzles. This can be done by using knights impaled on spikes as platforms, allowing your other knights to reach new depths of the level, making them die in such a way that their dead body will press a button or a variety of other means.
Back in 2008, a game was released that nobody would have expected to ever see. A self-proclaimed unofficial sequel to both Barkley Shut up and Jam and Space Jam. That game was Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden created by Tales of Games. An RPG like no other in which you control Charles Barkley attempting to survive after performing a chaos dunk which killed many people. This sequel now has its own sequel.
Dragon Fantasy: Book II is part two of the Dragon Fantasy trilogy and differs somewhat to Book I. While Book I had an 8-bit style, Book II has a 16-bit style. The classic JRPG throwback remains, showing homage to JRPGs of old such as Lufia II, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. The story follow directly on from Book I and will see the player following Ogden, Prince and Ramona through their respective chapters in the game.
In “The Ocean”, the game-play is that of a Metroidvania game and has you play as Aliph. As Aliph, you explore a dream world held together by two energy types which have an effect on Aliph’s movement physics. In “Even”, you play as Even. The game-play in this section is that of a platformer. Even can interact in town and enter dream sequences which allow her to modify the physics of “The Ocean”.
Uniquely — or at least so far as I have seen — Foul Play takes place on a stage. This is no rhythm game like your Guitar Hero or Rock Band, this is a Side-scrolling Brawler in which you are like actors on a stage, playing out the life-story of daemon-hunter Dashford. The mysterious life of Baron Dashford, Saviour of London, will be revelead on the stage. Complete with 22 differing acts, 50+ enemies and local/online co-op, Foul Play is one to watch.
TinkerHouse Games was formed in 2011 by multiple veterans of the industry. With a wide range of experience between them and five titles already released — including Cthulu Saves the World and On the Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness — they are no strangers to development. Dwarven Delve is to be their latest release and it aims to be unique. Making a non-gimmicky twist on the Dungeon Crawler genre is a tough one, but Dwarven Delve manages to pull it off with its puzzle-like hex-spinning game-play.
Coming out of the shadows and revealing at PAX Prime/Gamescom, FORCED has been under development since 2011. In FORCED, players take the role of gladiators, forced to fight off death in the arena. They will face off against monsters using one of four classes – each with 16 abilities. The game can be played in single-player or co-operative multi-player. To surpass the challenges and puzzles of the arena, players must make use of their Spirit Mentor. The Spirit Mentor is a floating orb which can interact with environmental objects.
Guns of Icarus Online released on the 29th of October 2012, but that doesn’t matter. Guns of Icarus Online will be at the Indie MEGABOOTH at PAX Prime and quite deservingly so. The combat isn’t quite as simple as fighting an enemy team on a small map. Combat in this game takes place on airships. Each team has 16 players spread across 4 ship. With multiple player classes, ship classes and game modes, I’m sure you can see the diversity increasing.
